Who Decided?

Questions for the people and systems that make the rules.

Every institution makes decisions that shape other people's options. The rules may be written down, passed through professional training or simply repeated until they become the way things are done.

Who decided that one amount of time was enough? Who decided which method counted as valid learning? Who decided which explanation of a child was more important than the child's account? Who decided the threshold for a reasonable exception?

Sometimes the answers will show good evidence and careful judgement. Sometimes they will reveal an assumption worth revisiting. Sometimes there will be no clear answer until someone asks.

This collection investigates the process of making rules, the evidence behind them, and the experiences of the people expected to live with them.
